Project Summary

The WIWOCHI Home Center in Arusha City seeks to improve the lives of 54 vulnerable children by reducing the risks posed by poverty and food insecurity, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This project will provide care, food, education, mentorship, and vocational training in poultry farming to enable self-sufficiency. The poultry farming initiative will generate additional income, ensuring the sustainability of education, food, medical needs, and essential supplies for the children.

Objectives

General Objective:
To reduce poverty and food insecurity among vulnerable children at WIWOCHI through poultry farming.

Specific Objectives:

  1. Establish a small poultry unit by 2025.
  2. Train WIWOCHI members in micro-social poultry farming.
  3. Develop business links with stakeholders for product marketing.
  4. Secure grant support to initiate and sustain poultry farming.

Key Activities

  1. Establish Poultry Infrastructure
    • Expand and renovate an existing chicken coop.
    • Procure farm equipment and essential materials.
  2. Training & Capacity Building
    • Conduct vocational training for 54 WIWOCHI members.
    • Provide education on poultry farming, record-keeping, and business management.
  3. Poultry Farming & Marketing
    • Procure and raise broiler chicks.
    • Establish links with markets and stakeholders.
    • Monitor and evaluate farm production.
  4. Project Management & Sustainability
    • Implement financial tracking systems.
    • Conduct periodic evaluations and reporting.

Economic Justification & Viability

  • Raising 500 broilers per cycle, with four production cycles annually.
  • Anticipated revenue: 450 chickens sold per cycle at TZS 6,500 per bird, yielding TZS 23,400,000 per year.
  • Estimated costs: TZS 13,000,000 per year (includes equipment, feed, labor, transport, veterinary services).
  • Expected profit: TZS 10,400,000 per year.
  • WIWOCHI will contribute 15% of the total project budget.
